2008 Track Notes

January 19 - The Carl Lewis Invitational at UH in Houston provided a number of quality performances again, but none bigger than Rynell Parson's 6.77 in the 60 which tied the national junior class record and moved him to a tie for the 5th best time in U.S. history…The best competition was easily the boys triple jump where Omar Craddock’s 49-5 edged out Marquise Goodwin’s 49-0¼ (after Goodwin had already long jumped 24-7 earlier in the day…Jersey Village’s Michael Barbas defeated a strong shot put field with a toss of 62-4¼ to take over the national lead...Temple's Harry Shepard topped 6-10 to move to the #2 spot on the national list.

January 5 - Mansfield junior Shade Weygandt won the National Pole Vault Summit with a state record tying 13-7 as she solidified her spot as the #4 all-time indoor vaulter in U.S. history. Hays' Jessica Doyle jumped a fine 12-7 with Wren Bonner going 12-2 and Aly Daily clearing 2-1. On the boys side, there was a definite shortage of Texas' guys making the annual trek to Reno. Blaine Bassler had a big 15-8 vault to finish 10th in the elite division...Renovations at East Chambers' stadium is keeping the school from hosting any meets this season.
